On September 19, 2024, a charity auction featuring a selection of stunning photographs by renowned New Zealand landscape photographer David Kerr concluded, raising an impressive $8,500 despite the current economic challenges. The event took place at the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre, Okahu Bay, Auckland, in support of the I Am Hope charity and its Gumboot Friday initiative, as well as the New Navigators Akarana Outreach Programme.
One of the standout moments of the night was the sale of Kerr’s iconic image, Okahu Bay Dinghies, which fetched $1,800. This particular photograph holds deep significance for the artist, as it was captured in the 1980s when the historic Okahu Bay clubhouse was still standing, representing Auckland’s rich marine heritage.
The exhibition ran from September 9 to 20, showcasing nine captivating prints, all auctioned for a good cause. The funds raised will go towards supporting mental health initiatives, including Gumboot Friday, while the proceeds from the sale of Okahu Bay Dinghies will aid the New Navigators Programme.
What a fantastic result! Raising this amount of money in the middle of a recession wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of the community.
