Description
Dinghies at Te Atatu Boating Club Marine on the Whau River in West Auckland.
The Whau River is an estuarial arm of the southwestern Waitemata Harbour (rather than a river) within the Auckland metropolitan area in New Zealand. It flows north for 5.7 km from its origin at the confluence of the Avondale Stream and Whau Stream to its mouth between the Te Atatū Peninsula and the long, thin Rosebank Peninsula in Avondale. The Whau River is named after a native tree, the whau.
This river means differrent things to different people. It’s a favourite fishing spot, a peaceful area to reflect, a great place for a family picnic, or a local place for a swim or a kayak. For Tangata Whenua, water has significant spiritual values.
